Rock on, sister! I have a different take on women and our love of rock and roll. Going to a concert for a (youngish) band or artist you might love has become a major trial in breaking barriers. I'm not talking about 50-year-olds going to see aging rock stars---plenty of room for us out there. But I have anxiety attacks about going to shows where I know the average age will of the audience will be 17. So not fair!!! I managed to drag my daughter to a Keith Urban concert a year ago because I paid for her ticket (and she was soooooooo embarassed!); but when another country hottie visited a local club, I had no one I could cold call to go with me. I finally said, the heck with it, and went. It was a blast, but when the coeds started flinging their bras at the singer, I found myself wanting to scold them and say, "Put your underwear back on, young lady!" I actually have pix from this show (with Keith Anderson) and a post about my one night retro rock experience on my blog at http://bloominginmidlife.blogspot.com/2008/08/yee-haw-last-night-at-keith-anderson.html. We just have to tell ourselves, it's OK to rock out at any age!

Celeste, you used to have blonde hair didn't you. And is that marriage thing working out for your sister, I certainly hope not.

I like Van Halen, but not Sarah Palin.

My drummer and I are having a discussion about the memorization thing. I have a hard time memorizing music and lyrics too and rely on my charts. Yes, I understand on one hand that I probably do need it memorized, but on the other hand I am not the lead and simply a background vocalist and keyboardist. Do you think the memorization and having music on a stand is that big of a deal?

My mom took up bass and toured the Midwest with a rock band when she was in her late 40s or early 50s. It's never too late! I'll write more about her in later posts.

Auurghh! You're living my life! Well, not exactly but I always thought it would be SO fun to sing to someone besides myself in the car and shower. I did actually take up bass playing a year and a half ago so I am rubbing elbows with musicians.

And, dang, that equipment IS heavy!

You go girl!
