Parents are remarkably vigilant in making sure their kids don't abuse the privilege. So ours never made it through the night untouched---but I always kept a few extra bags in the house just as insurance. We’ve done that too, for years, leaving the bowl of candy outside. There is something somewhat pathetic about coming home to an untouched bowl of candy. He finally gave up that routine last year, and my weight is the better for it. (But that doesn't mean I still can't "visit" my kids' stashes of candy.)
