The Rest of Our Life is Looking A Lot Longer Now

Submitted by byjane on Monday, 22 March 20103 Comments

Remember my  post a couple of years back about our age versus developmental stage?  Sunday’s New York Times had an article that cut right to the heart of it.  We’re living a hell of a lot longer.  Retirement is not an option, for some because of finances and for others, just because.  So what do we do when 50+ is looming? When 60+ is here? This article, “Ready for Life’s Encore Performances,” by Sarah Kershaw is more than encouraging.

    Fascinating story, more so because I am 55 and I am unemployed and looking at what I want to do… versus what I think I ought to do! Scary and fun.

    @Laura,
    The article really resonated with me too. Who’d have thought I’d be trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up–again!

    @byjane, There’s a great ad on TV, not sure what it’s for!! But it features a number of older individuals all facing the camera and telling what they want to be when they grow up. Well done, varied types, nice message… I guess? I was more interested in seeing the ages and gender than the advertiser.
