Fashion After Fifty

Every night before I turn out the light, I go to Advanced Style on my iPad.  What? You haven’t heard of Advanced Style?  It is a fashion site for those of us who still love fashion even though we can remember the first and second times that the “great new things” of today were being shown.

Advanced Style is the brainchild of Ari Seth Cohen (pictured above), who wanders the streets of New York–and other metropoli–with a camera taking photos of women and men who, despite no longer being young and cute, are participating as they always have in the fashion game.

Before I found Advanced Style, I was mourning the end of my days of being fashionable.  I still get all the fashion magazines but to what end, I asked myself.  I can’t wear half the stuff they’re showing; I’m too old.

Ha!  Just a week or two of looking at Advanced Style and I realized–you’re never too old.  Not even when you’re 100.

Thank you for turning me onto this!! I love it; gives me hope that my zany fashion choices will only get more interesting with age!

Love, love love Advanced Style. I discovered it just by chance a few weeks ago. What an inspiration those women are! They remind me of my still-chic 97 year old grandmother. Go girls, go!

Oh my, what a great blog! I hadn’t heard of it before and just spent 30 minutes roaming around the site. It reminded me of why I loved NYC so much and the elegant and classy style of our “elders”. What a treat.

I wear pretty much what I want with in reason for my age.. My justification is I see some 30 and 40 year olds wearing things that they shouldn’t. Haha

Talking about Advanced style or stylish older women. The Duchess of Alba who has a face like a monkey – from so many plastic surgeries, I imagine – has impeccable fashion taste, and always wears the most beautiful garments and shoes. Shows we are never too old or too aged to wear lovely things.
