I remember when you were staying with me when you did Noel Coward at the Music Center and you brought home some music from the era. I think I still have that record–which is in my Stone Ponies album cover. And where is my Stone Ponies album???? Gone forever–like the flowers!

I can’t write with background music on. It always wants to become foreground for me. Same thing when I would try to fall asleep to my clock radio (remember them?!). I would stay awake until the radio shut off. I guess it has to do with my lifelong issues with (ahem) focus!

Do you also remember making chains out of chewing gum wrappers? I don’t know why that is stuck to the music memory in my mind. Oh, wait, yes I do—one of my friends who made those chains also used to write letters to her boyfriend using only the titles of popular songs. I was so envious of both skills.

Ohmyheck! I learned how to sing harmony by listening to my brother’s Kingston Trio albums! Do you have their Capitol Records collection set? It’s great. And I always have a Pandora station running in the background while I write. I don’t think I could write without it.

I always use music when I’m rehearsing. I love what music can do. Your choice of music when washing dishes is very evocative since we grew up at the same time. But my tunes were Whiter Shade of Pale, The Weight, Nights in White Satin and things like that. If I were a writer I’d follow your directives but since I’m an actress I’ll just listen and rehearse other people’s words. Love you laure
