Was invited to join 3 yrs ago for my 50th bday – but have NOT joined because I don’t feel like funding a political lobbying group – especially when I don’t agree with some of their views.

Why? Well maybe for the travel discount; I don’t have AAA… I don’t have a good reason, it just seemed like the thing to do. Small amount of money and as someone else noted I’d like to have this large lobbying faction out there working on “our” behalf.

We’ll see . . .

To me that’s more important than most of the discounts. I want someone lobbying for my interests.

You say “older” and “old” as if it’s an insult. But I digress. My only experience with AARP was after I signed up for a year, and got OH so much junkmail. I think they’re probably doing some good, and Kymberly, I’ve looked at the magazine a few times and it was interesting. But I’ve also read that they’re kind of intransigent vis a vis Congress…lobbying for us old peeps at the expense of anybody else. I admit I’m not well informed on this topic but my initial reaction to AARP is, no thanks.

Then I read the magazine and discovered I really liked most of the articles. For me, the magazine makes membership viable and valuable. Boom Chicka Boomer fessing up to reading “older people” stuff and liking it!
