Once upon a time I actually had a subscription to you. My sister got it for me–and then dropped it because, “Oooh, who reads People Magazine?!” Once upon a time, I actually met with your editor to see about writing for you, but she said no because “you’re an investigative reporter and I don’t think you’d be happy writing for People.”
The general concensus seemed to be that I was too lofty for People. I never thought so. I always figured that when you were as overeducated as I am, you could damn well read what you pleased. So I made good use of the long waits at the checkout lane in the supermarket and bought the odd issue when a simple scan wouldn’t do.
And then this year at Christmas, my sterling numbers with Klout earned me status as a People VIP
and they sent me a gift box full of goodies
PLUS a subscription to the print and on-line edition.
To say I was thrilled is an understatement. I immediately took photos so that I could share my good news on Twitter. Maybe you saw this Selfie wearing the Animal Print Scarf I got in my #PeopleVIP Editors’ Picks box. Definitely made the outfit. http://instagram.com/p/h_psXdkiup/
Then all too soon, I had That Operation, which knocked me out of the social media game for a whole month (an eternity in blog time), so I never got to post the photos I took. But in that month, my weekly People was often the highpoint of my weekend. I read it from cover to cover and it reminded me that while I was vegetating in my solitary recovery, there was a world out there that one day I would again be a part of.
So thank you, People Magazine, for being you and for honoring me as a PeopleVIP.
