Wednesday Writer’s Workshop: T’was Just Before Christmas….

and all through the house–what?  Is it crazy? Quiet?  Are you jolly? Mildly irritated?  Fully pissed off?

In this Big Holiday Season–what has gone according to plans?  What has gone awry?  What are you vowing “never again?”  And what are you thinking, “maybe next year….”

I’ll post my response tomorrow.  You can vent in the comments or commit a fully-written prose piece to your blog and send me the link: jane(at)midlifebloggers(dot)com

    Well, we learned last night that an extended family member is in hospice care, so one of my immediate family members has flown across the country to be with them for a week. So they’ll miss Christmas at home but be back for New Year’s, regardless of when the dying family member actually passes. Life goes on.

    As you know I just lost one of my very best friends. Not having her around during Thanksgiving, her birthday, and Christmas has been hard. The pain is starting to dull a little bit but just this evening when wrapping presents I found several old gift tags address to my children “from Auntie Lisa” in her characteristically bad handwriting. These little things take my breath away. Nothing will ever be the same, especially the holidays. :(

      Kim,
      I love reading these bits you write about Lisa. She is becoming so real to me. It was such a great detail that her gift tags were in her “characteristically bad handwriting.” Makes me go–”well, yeah, she was a doctor!”

    I’m a Hanukkah girl and it’s all a bit anti-climatic compared to Christmas– except for the potato latkes :-)
    Merry Christmas Jane,

    I’ve got my love to keep me warm so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. No, I don’t really have a love to keep me warm, but I love Christmas music and singing is almost as good as being in love. This Christmas has given me lot of decking the halls so what are you doing new year’s eve.

      @Julie Gallaher,
      I usually bah humbug my way through New Year’s Eve. I’m still pissed off that my high school experience was so thoroughly chronicled by Janis Ian.

    @Pjpusser,

    I’m thinking a cruise next year would be nice. Care to join me?

    You know how I feel so I won’t underscore it. Holidays are to get through. They make me want to be 5 years old again.
