This is a wanton, craven advertisement. Okay, it’s neither wanton nor craven Come to think of it, it isn’t really an advertisement either. It’s more–oh, what shall we call it?–a call to arms. Why the martial air?
We need to have more of a voice in our culture. It’s the only way we’re going to define it for ourselves–as opposed to relying on the tech-savvy young or historical precedent to do it for us. Creating a cadre of tech-savvy midlifers is the goal of the MidLifeBloggers Conference. But I’m starting right now, locally, by teaching a course in blogging at the Sacramento Library’s new I Street Press.
It’s called Get Blogging! and it’s a two-half day course offered on two separate weekends, one in January and the other in March. The cost is $160, but there are scholarships available. Here’s how the Library described it:
Learn about the fastest-growing area of the internet, the Blogosphere, where hobbyists and professionals, marketers and businesses are changing the way people get information. This course provides you with an introduction to the background and tools, as well as offering the specific guidance you will need to start your own blogging journey. In this interactive course, you will learn by example and by doing. In the end–if you like–your own blog may become part of the Blogosphere! Some basic computer experience recommended.
Saturdays: 1:00-5:00 p.m. – January 21 and 28 or March 3 and 1 - North Natomas Library, 4660 Via Ingoglia, Sacramento, CA 95835
Early registration (deadline 1/7 for first session and 2/19 for second session): $144. Regular registration: $160
It’s being held in a computer classroom, so this will definitely be a hands-on experience.
Go to the I Street Press 2012 Catalogue for further information, to register–and to see about scholarships.
