Walking Manhattan: Social Media Saavy

by Lisa Weldon of reSoulin’ my dancing shoes

Now that I’ve spent a month learning how to blog, tweet and optimize my search, I am officially hot to trot.

I’ve learned how to add keywords, and the right ones at that. How to tag my meta, and raise my Klout. I now speak all these languages: fbml, html seo, cms, as well as lol. I can hear who’s gossiping online about my client on SocialMention and generate progress reports on Raven. I now understand how to create ads in Stumble Upon, target them in Google and price them in Facebook. A few intense classes and I’ve become quite a social climber.

With a ranking of 56, my online presence has now classified me as a “Specialist” which is described as: “You many not be a celebrity, but within your area of expertise, you opinion is second to none. Your content is likely focused around a specific topic or industry with a focused, highly-engaging audience.” Not bad!

Even though my class at Parsons was cancelled, I have accomplished exactly what I came to New York to do. I have taken classes, been tutored, stayed up all hours of the night trying to learn . . . the new tools of my trade. I can’t wait to get back home and start playing with my new toys.

I really love what I do for a living. Even after 35 years.

Oh, I do so love what I do for a living! I was with a friend last night, a neighbor who had undergone a bone marrow transplant. I’ve been on him to blog, to tell his story. Last night at his home, as I went on and on about marketing, blogging and social media, he looked up at me and said, ‘you really love what you do, don’t you?” Yep, I wish everyone could say that about their chosen profession.
