MidLifeBloggers Writers Workshop: Sign Up Now

MidLifeBloggers Writers WorkshopAs writers, most of our time is spent in our head alone at our desk. Given that writing is an act of communication, doing it in a vacuum doesn’t really make much sense. I’ve designed this workshop to simulate as much as is possible on-line what happens in a real time writing workshop.

There will be some traditional course work–about specific facets of writing, based on my experience as a working writer and a teacher of writing. There will be some group discussion–about things we’ve written and things we’ve read. There will be regular one-on-one conferences with me to discuss your on-going work in which we’ll deal with your specific concerns as well as my concrete suggestions.

SPECIFICS: The MidLifeBloggers Writers Workshop takes place within the academic year. There are three separate workshop sessions, each ten weeks in length, each costing $150.00. Each session is discrete and may be taken as a stand-alone or as part of the whole:

  • Writing As Process & The Process of Writing: the philosophical, emotional and practical underpinnings of writing9/30 to 12/9/2013
  • Writing From Your Gutsorganic writing, vulnerability vs TMI, writing about friends and family - Winter 2014
  • Blogging & the Business of Writingquery letters, sponsored posts, getting paid and what you’re worth - Spring 2014

WHO YOU ARE: You write because you love working with words or you have something you want to express. Writing is something you’ve always wanted to do or something you’ve always done. You may be experienced, published even, or just starting out. I’ve designed this workshop for every level of experience.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY is to make a commitment to participate fully in the workshop for its duration. I realize we all have other lives and responsibilities, but the success or failure of a writing workshop depends on the efforts of the participants.  There will be outside reading and writing exercises. Both are the basis of the group discussions we will have, and I expect you to keep up to date and participate.

WHO I AM: Since 1975, I have earned my living as a magazine feature writer, documentary producer, scholarly writer, business writer, print editor, radio reporter, non-fiction book writer, and blogger. I’ve taught creative writing, non-fiction essay writing, college English, critical thinking, blogging, and English literature in classrooms large and small all over the country. I founded MidLifeBloggers in 2008 and the first Writers Workshop began that year. If you want the full extent of my experience, including credits and publications, check my LinkedIn profile.

MY RESPONSIBILITY is to give you my absolute attention and intention in the preparation of coursework, the leading of group discussions, the preparation for our one-on-one conferences.

Now is the time to sign up. Because of the one-on-one nature of my coaching, spaces are limited. To reserve your space, please send me an email at jane(at)midlifebloggers(dot)com or use the Paypal button below.

I’m interested in a writing workshop, time to sharpen up my skills. How long are the sessions, so I will have an idea how to work my schedule.

What is the fee for this workshop?

I’m unclear how the workshops will be presented. Will they be online or do we meet somewhere? Will the courses be presented in real time, or will we work in a self-paced manner?

The workshops will be presented online, Pam. We’ll be using Google’s Drive, which enables private sharing of word processing documents and has a Comments feature similar to Word. And we’ll use Google’s Hangouts for the real time, live parts of the workshop, although that too can be accessed after the fact by those who couldn’t participate. So the answer to your question re self-paced is: sort of, in that you can read the posts and do your writing/commenting whenever you like. For our one-on-one’s, we will arrange for a mutually agreeable time.
