Quotidian Iterations and Pruning the Blogroll

Happy New Year. Oh, did I say that already? I’ve been writing for so many different sites that I can’t remember who I’ve told what. Someone emailed me the other day to say she’d noticed I hadn’t posted in a while, and I wrote back in a huff, ‘yes I have.’ But then I looked and–surprise!–she was right.

Here are two words I learned this year:  quotidian and iteration. They are now my favorite words.  I use them whenever I can, even when it makes no sense.

I’m starting to read blogs again–I think. Suddenly I’m finding very funny people, very funny midlife people, very funny smart midlife people. Some of them are new to me, like Kirby Dunton of Kirb Appeal, who just started a new blog, Fifty is the New Thirteen, which is the one I’m lovin’ .  Some are on MidLifeBloggers Blogroll already. Like Tori Taff of BabyBloomr who’s been raising kids and eyebrows since 1992.

And speaking of the MidLifeBloggers Blogroll, I’d like to put it on a diet in 2011. Okay, maybe not a diet, but let’s give it a haircut.  Get rid of the split ends.  Make it a little more, oh I don’t know, up-to-date.  To that end, I’m asking you, all of you, you and you over there as well, to hit on the link, find your blog’s name, make sure all the information is current, and then come back here to tell me in a comment.  Or email me at jane(at)midlifebloggers(dot)com.  I’m going to prune that sucker down to the live wood (as I should be doing with my roses).

Oh, and I apologize for mixing my metaphors.

    I’m always glad to find a post of yours.

    Could you update my blog listing from Thursday Drive to A Road with a View at aroadwithaview.com. Even if my posting schedule is nowhere close to quotidian. Or something. ;)

    Hi, Jane. I am so glad you are going to prune the blogroll. I use it a lot, and though I regret the MIA, it’s tedious to keep finding dead blogs there. (I so much regret Musing… I wonder if she is elsewhere. And Ms Meta, of course, but she knows that.)

    But you are not posting about the quotidian, and I still do miss that. You, the dog, the house, the ex husband, the flat pack boxes in the car…

    Also, while I am offering unsolicited analysis, I sometimes feel that the focus is too self-consciously midlife. How about highlighting good and interesting posts, on whatever subject, which simply happen to be written by middle-aged people? Which I guess is only another way of saying I don’t much care for issue and advice blogs, but I am very interested in the quotidian. I want to know how people live.

    But, what were you asking? Oh yes: my blog is still at http://www.duchessomnium.com. I even wrote a post the other day!

    @DuchessOmnium

    Duchess, Duchess, Duchess…clearly if the overall response to this post is an indication, the pruning will leave a stump of about five blogs. I suppose I could go through myself and check each one, but that would be too tedious, I fear.

    I too miss the quotidian, but I don’t seem to be able to do it on MidLifeBloggers. I was just thinking the other day that I should start another blog where I can just blather (which is what you call quotidian).

    Re your unsolicited advice: I’m still waiting for you to come in and be a partner here. You did suggest that, didn’t you?

    Okay, I succumbed to the Duchess’s pressure and I’m going through the Blogroll myself. Have gotten through the A’s. Have lost 3 blogs. I’ll soldier on, but as I’m doing this, I’m thinking–gee, there are people here who slid onto MLB without any fanfare. I’m going to do shoutouts. I’m also going to figure out how to do a regular post called Quotidian Jane.
