YARDSALES, BAH!

Submitted by byjane on Saturday, 9 April 2005No Comment

We have just completed yet another yard sale at which we worked our asses off and made almost nothing. I have NEVER NEVER NEVER come across such flippin’ cheap people as in WeHo and the environs. This sale was just the same as all the others. Almost no one spoke English. Lest you think that means they are poor immigrants–they’re not. They’re cheap immigrants. And they are so fucking insistent. For example–we have a mahogany dropleaf table with two leaves and six chair with fabric (in great condition) seats. We want $150 for the lot. Not one, not two, but three idiots only wanted the chairs. Okay, that’s fair enough. But we said no. But they ignored us. Each of them at different times during the day whined and pleaded and then–here’s a good ploy–insulted the chairs, as if that would make us say, “oh thank you so much for pointing out the worn places on these 50 year old chairs. I hadn’t noticed. Why don’t you just take them for free.” The last one was a particularly annoying woman. I wanted to chase her away with a broomstick. These people make me xenophobic–which is ironic considering that most of the most obnoxious ones are from my maternal grandparents native land. Maybe it’s having to spend all those years standing in line to get toilet paper that makes them so obnoxious. If I weren’t so tired and fed up, I could get a really good rant going…….
