Thanksgiving was something of a disappointment. For some reason, my pecan pie, which has in year’s past been known as Jane’s World Famous Best Ever Pecan Pie, was only marginal. It was, in a word goopy. I hate goopy pecan pie. That is, pecan pie in which the nuts sit atop a solid mass of…goop. I like my goop and nuts blended together, more like a praline, I suppose. I don’t know why my goop didn’t blend as usual. I made it as always. I use a tart pan with a removable bottom, so it’s much thinner than a “normal” pecan pie. The only difference was that instead of Pillsbury pie crust, I used Trader Joe’s. And I cooked it in my convection oven. It looked terrific, and others said it tasted terrific, but I DIDN’T LIKE IT….

My second batch of pie was goopy, too. Don’t know why.

Wish I’d thought to look at TJ’s for pie crust.

I’m not so sure that I’d do the TJ’s crust again. It was quite thick and cracked at the folds. No amount of puttering sealed the cracks and the filling leaked (another first).

    Oh, well.

I should be less lazy and make my own.

I used a whole wheat one from Whole Foods, which was fine, and a plain old grocery store variety, which was also fine, and the cracks patched nicely.

Oh dear. I bet it was the different crust.

I almost bought some TJ’s pie crusts, so you have warned me.

    Still: pecan pie!
