Lawsy mercy, where are my glasses? or why aren’t my arms longer…

Will wonders never cease? Along with menopause, hot flashes, dryness in places you don’t want to be dry, and belly rolls, comes the loss of eyesight or at least your reading eyesight. I keep going back to the eye doctor and trying contacts but they don’t cut it so instead of buying good bifocal glasses without the line, I buy the cheap ones from the dollar store so I’ve got a pair everywhere! Everywhere as in……my purse for reading restaurant menus…….beside my bed for reading books, beside my computer for….well, computing…..beside the stove so I don’t burn the house down, and so forth. I think I have approximately 43.7 pairs between the two States I occupy. (and no…..that doesn’t mean I’m as big as two States)

Anyway, back to my story……….I have this watch that I love but for some reason the dial is getting smaller and even though I can still tell the time, I can forget about being able to read the date in that teeny tiny window. Last time I took my watch in for a new battery it was around the 7th of the month but according to my watch, it was the 30th and I felt a little guilty for not keeping the date current. So today I happened to look at my watch with my glasses on and noticed it was the 2nd…….according to my watch….but in fact it’s the 5th of June. I’m thinking maybe now would be a good time to wind it around enough times to cover three 24 hour periods and get it on the right day rather than wait until it required more effort on my part which in turn would mean it probably wouldn’t get done. So I pull out the little stem and start winding but I realize I don’t have it pulled out enough to turn the second and hour hands but I notice something astonishing. Can it be?? Oh yes, it is……..it’s turning the date and the date only. Who knew??? I’ve worn this watch for over ten years and I never knew about that little trick. I’m thinking maybe I should wear my glasses more often because I could be missing all kinds of important stuff. But I’ll have to draw the line to wearing glasses when I put on makeup in the morning or I might just see lines, wrinkles and hairs I’d rather think weren’t there. Ugh………it’s hell getting old(er) and what day is it, anyway?

**I buy the cheap ones from the dollar store so I’ve got a pair everywhere!**

I do the same thing. Around the corner from my house a discount stores sells these cheap glasses for $1 per pair. Yippee!

I seem to have problems with my prescribed pair.

Once I had on a cheap pair (you may have realized they’re good for reading only) while working on the computer. My son came in and handed me some change after running an errand. I put the coins on my lap while I put the bills in my wallet, the whole time forgetting I had the glasses on. Suddenly I noticed that the coins on my lap looked very odd. I was about to say aloud, “Why are these quarters so humongous?”

I’d formed my mouth but stopped just in time to realize that I was looking at the quarters magnified. Let’s just say I avoid memory challenges these days.

Arghh! YES! It seems the ultimate irony to me that just as your close up sight goes, one’s chin and face hairs start going crazy! It is so embarrassing to suddenly catch site of that inch long white hair growing out of the middle of your cheek or chin that you can no longer see without glasses. Who designed this process anyway?? :)

Now there’s a great post we can all relate to…

I’ve worn glasses most of my adult life, but now that the midlife vision thing has set in, I have to take my glasses OFF to see the menu, prescription bottles, etc.

I am very short (near) sighted but dealt with the middleaged problem of close reading by moving my specs up and down my nose. Then one day I had to admit it was either varifocals or a nose job…

I’ve been wearing bifocals for 10 years and I still never know what day it is.

Love the new look Jane. Wow. It look great!
